South Australian Rebate

Consumers may be eligible for one of the following 2 rebates on offer:

1) SA State Rebate
2) Port Augusta $1000 Rebate
 

South Australian State Rebate

The SA Government Solar Hot Water Rebate Scheme has been introduced to promote sustainability and reduce greenhouse gas emissions associated with water heating. The South Australian Government‘s Solar Hot Water Rebate Scheme will now target low income households to help them comply with new water heater performance standards effective from 1 July 2008.

The new standards aim to increase the uptake of high-efficiency gas, heat pump and solar water heaters.

New eligibility criteria for the Rebate Scheme will apply for water heaters installed from 1 July 2008 (postponed from 17 May), in line with the introduction of new water heater performance standards.

A $500 rebate will be available to applicants who meet the eligibility criteria. The following table summarises hot water systems eligible for the rebate.

* Renovation - new hot water system not replacing an existing one.
** Gas access is natural gas or LPG, reticulated in the street.

Eligible applicants are home owners who install a complying water heater, as outlined above, to serve their principal place of residence; and at the time of the installation, hold at least one of the following.

Australian Government concession cards:

  • Centrelink Health Care Card
  • Centrelink Pensioner Concession Card
  • DVA Gold Card - Totally and Permanently Incapacitated
  • DVA Gold Card - War Widow
  • DVA - Extreme Disablement Adjustment

Port Augusta $1000 Rebate

Residents within the City of Port Augusta are being given the opportunity to receive a $1000 rebate when installing a Solar or Heat Pump hot water system.

Anyone who has received or is applying for the South Australian Government’ s $500 solar rebate, will not be eligible for the Port Augusta rebate.

The key criteria for this rebate are:

  • The applicant must be the owner and use the installation address as their principle place of residence (must be within the boundaries of the City of Port Augusta)
  • Solar or heat pump hot water systems are eligible where they meet AS2712, and are installed by a licenced electrician/plumber;
  • In a new home,
  • In direct replacement for an old electric storage heater.

The rebate can be claimed by the homeowner or by the installer provided that an up front discount has been passed on to the homeowner. Successful applications should be fully processed and paid within 8 weeks.
